In the Twinkling of an Eye
There are over two hundred and seventy-two references in the New Testament as to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the Old Testament references to the coming of Christ are mentioned three hundred times. I am going to be dealing with the coming of the Son of Man and some of the aspects of that coming.
Becoming the Christian God Intends
To overcome this self, and to truly become the Christian God intends, the revelation must come to the heart that "Christ is all and in you all."
The Vision and Goal of the School of Christ
The vision and goal of the School of Christ is to train men who will train others. This was Paul's method, and is how he reached the known world of his time.
A Misrepresentation of God
When Adam sinned he became an altogether different man. His spirit was so violated that it sank down in subjection
to the soul; he became a soulish man lacking the ability to communicate with God. Adam's sin was, he chose his own will,
and he acted independent of God.
The Church Is A Remnant
The history of the Bride in the Old Testament is a study in remnants. Every generation of the church has begun in revival and ended in apostasy. The vast majority have followed the Law, but out of every generation there has emerged a faithful minority. These have been the vessel through which God could pour Himself again.
By My Spirit
The Word says, when He, the Holy Spirit is come, men will dream, see visions, prophecy. In our text Peter says, "This is that which was spoken by the Prophet Joel." In other words, the anointing has come so there should be sons and daughters demonstrating the very life of God through the church. The gospel is now to be preached in power and demonstration of the Holy Ghost.
Seeing God
There comes a time in every seekers life, when his spirit demands reality. I am not speaking of being saved, I am speaking of knowing God. After years of walking with God Paul cried, "That I might know him..." There will come a time in your life when you must know if these things are true or not.
The Unselfish Disciple
The first mark of a disciple is unselfishness. There are no selfish Christians. If the grace of God is within you, then it produces the self-giving Spirit that was in the Lord Jesus Christ. The liberal soul shall be made fat, because the liberal soul is the soul in tune with God.
Distinct Culture
Self must die. This is where most fail, because their life style conditions them to have their own way. The Holy Spirit will not share His life with your life. Two persons with two different wills cannot inhabit the same body, one must go.
The True Disciple is Born Delivered
Because there are millions of so-called Christians who lost their love for the truth, God is sending a strong delusion. When men reject the truth they ultimately believe a lie. When men reject the Christ they ultimately accept the anti-christ.
Few Chosen
The great mass of believers will never be challenged to action without the efforts of a dedicated, self sacrificing few. The masses, as a whole, are timid, fearful and tradition bound. They have accepted without question, the creeds and dogmas of static religion and will never be free until set free by a people who have themselves been set free.
The World Without God
The careless will never be a part of that raptured church. It is those who walk with God, those that the spiritual life is the important life. If you don't want to pray, don't want to go to church, don't want to read the Bible, you are dead. Dead folks aren't going. "How shall we escape if we neglect..."
How to Release God's Ability
The kingdom of God is the will of God imposed, first over the individual believer, and from there over the entire body of Christ. To seek the kingdom of God is to seek the control of the Holy Ghost over our lives. This is the Lordship of Christ.
Commitment
A look back to history reveals that the world accepts Christianity, only after its life and vitality have been lost. Constantine did not embrace the Christianity of the upper room. The church must be forced to look at herself and by the spirit make an honest assessment.
Rivers of Living Water
Let me ask you, do you want to receive? Do you want fullness? Do you want enlargement? Do you want all that this means; rivers of living water? It will only come by giving. God knows nothing of selfishness. This the Lord's mind, this is the real nature of service. It is the secret of life.
A Blessing And A Curse
In this message I do not speak about God I speak for God. I am sure that what I have to say will not set well with the "user friendly, secret sensitive, purpose driven," but what I say must be said. The hour is too late and the need too great for the man of God' to hold his peace.
The Point of No Return
At what point does the Spirit cease to strive with man and with a society? John 3:19 sets the point of no return, "men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil." This says that man recognizes the Holiness of God, and the sinfulness of his own being. Because he fears God he does not openly display his wickedness. It is when man defies the Almighty God and openly practices his immorality and perversion God's mercy ends.
Sound Doctrine
The relation between sound doctrine and behavior is like the relation between a tree and the fruit it bears: the latter cannot exist without the former. Heavenly doctrine is to be matched with heavenly character and conduct. The first epistle of the New Testament exemplifies this truth, three fourths of it is occupied with the lying down of the essentials of Christianity.
Restoring the Ultimate
We are now in the time of the restoration. The scripture does not say that the heavens will receive Him until all things are restored, but until the times of restoration. In the Millennium many things will be restored, but the Church will be restored before Jesus comes.
The Church is Christ
The greatest single need, in this era of religious confusion and apostasy, is a new revelation and vision of the Lord Jesus Christ. Much of today's so-called Christianity is nothing more than cult religion, with many of it's super stars taking on a messianic complex and deceiving millions. As it was in the days of Noah, the creature is exalted above the creator.
Jesus Is Coming
There are certain characteristics about His coming that I believe need to be fixed in our mind. Number one, Paul made it very plain that He's coming suddenly. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. That doesn't leave any time for you to change your mind. You're going to be ready then, or you won't be ready.
The Dreamer
Behold the dreamer. Joseph the dreamer was referred to as 'the man', not 'a man' which meant he was a representative man. Joseph dreamed a dream. and in that dream he saw the plan and purpose of God unfold. He made the mistake of sharing his dream with his older brothers, the carnal religious. Later his father sent him into the field with some things for his brothers, when the brothers saw Joseph they said "Behold this dreamer cometh."
Wilt Thou Not Revive Us Again
The word revival has suffered so much misuse in our time, we are almost hesitant to use the it. We believe that all got-up revivals are bad. You cannot organize a true revival. We cannot treat spiritual influences as fixed quantities. As the wind bloweth where it listeth, so, often, is the sudden profound, and irresistible impulse which roused the Church, and breaks in upon the deadly slumber and deceptive security of the world.
The Broadwall Must Be Rebuilt
"And they fortified Jerusalem unto the broad wall." (Nehemiah 3:8) "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, because thou hast rejected knowledge: I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." (Hosea 4:6)
The Man Of God Must Be The Model
The problem in Jesus' day there were many religious people, there were lawyers who were informers of the law. They were not teachers, you can only teach by example. These men were only informers. Christianity is filled with informers. The world does not need informers, It needs instructors who demonstrate what it is to be a Christian, by living a Christian life. In that kind of instructions there is power to bring the Gospel to a world that is lost.
And They Said...
Babel has long since crumbled to ruins, but the selfish ambitions that were in the hearts of the human race have lived on. The builders of Babel trapped the potentials of unity and channeled it into one tremendous ambitious effort. The spirit of that building era lives today; the cry of this Babel age is "Let us build."
Mere Consumers
It is more necessary for us to be active than to be orthodox. To be orthodox is what we wish to be, but we can only truly reach it by being honest, by being original, by seeing with our own eyes, by believing with our own heart. An idle life, says Goethe, "is death anticipated." Better far to be burned at the stake of public opinion than to die the living death of parasitism. Better a little faith dearly won, better launched alone on the infinite bewilderment of truth than perish on the splendid plenty of the richest creeds.
The Lost Treasure
"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." (Luke 19:10) What do we understand by that Scripture? In Gospel terms we have painted pictures of lost sheep, of lost individuals. That is true, but we must be far more comprehensive than this. There is more lost than the souls of men.
Harvest Time
"And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, thrust In thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe." (Revelation 14:15)
Death in the Pot
When Elijah came on the scene the concept of separation from the world, and holiness unto God, were lost on the mind and conscious of Israel. His message was directed exclusively to this tragedy. Jezebel had succeeded in bringing into Israel's worship the idolatrous worship of Baal. The nation was mixed both nationally and religiously. It was against this mixture that God reacted.
Debating Society or an Agent of God?
Jesus Christ came revealing something of the mystery of man and the mystery of God. He was the perfect expression of God and at the same time, he was a perfect demonstration of what God intends man to be. The Bible teaches that Christ and the believer are one, and that nothing lies beyond the reach of those of daring faith.
The Quest of God
The Church like Ezekiel is faced with impossibilities, before us is these heaps of dry dead bones, and the question is being asked over and over again, can these bones live? We have tried to answer the question with our programs and theological juggling, and have sent them home saying we were clever fellows, yet we have left them in spiritual darkness.
The Convictive Power of the Holy Ghost
The Holy Ghost will so vividly show the nature of sin, that those who thought themselves the best example of human society will be affected with the keenest compunction because of what they know themselves to be in the presence of God. Without the Holy Ghost there will be no such conviction. Without conviction Jesus Christ cannot be understood.
The Naked Cross
"Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near unto the altar of the LORD thy God, which thou shalt make thee. Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the LORD thy God hateth." Because they did not like to look at the ugly spectacle of their blood soaked altars, they planted trees around them to lessen the severity.
The Second Coming of Christ
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:1-3
