Blessings,
On Saturday we left the beautiful island of Ometepe, located in the department of Rivas was the first school to be held in this department, La Isla de Ometepe is one of the beauties of the natural resources found in Nicaragua, is visited by tourists incredibly all over the world. This makes the investment greater for this reason.
Its area is 276 km and is the largest volcanic island in the world of those located within a lake. Its population amounts to 35,000. The major population centers are Moyogalpa and Altagracia, which are also the two main ports of access to the island from the cities of Granada, San Carlos and San Jorge.
The island's name derives from the Nahuatl words ome, meaning two, and tepetl, meaning hill or mountain: the place of two mountains, since it consists almost entirely by the cones of two volcanoes, Concepcion volcano and the volcano Maderas. Llama wide attention the similarity of forms and cardinal direction between Tahiti and Ometepe (both have a figure eight), plus both are of volcanic origin in two sections separated by an isthmus, and both are more populated in the north than in the south. With the difference that Ometepe volcanoes has two well-formed (in tahiti not, are remnants of ancient volcanic structures) and Tahiti is approximately twice the length of Ometepe.
Concepcion volcano rises to 1610 m and its maximum diameter is 36 km. His last ejection of ashes dates back to 2005 and the last eruption of lava, forcing the evacuation of the island occurred in 1957. After a long period of inactivity, the volcano resumed its activities in 1883 with a period of eruption that lasted four years. Since then, eruptions have been repeated with some frequency in 1889, 1902, 1907 and 1924. The volcano is covered by 2,200 hectares of protected forest. In 2005 there was a 6.2 magnitude tremor on the Richter scale as a result of pressure accumulated within the volcano.
Maderas volcano has an elevation of 1394 m and a maximum diameter at its base of 24 km. Its last eruption took place more than eight centuries ago and today is considered extinct. Its crater is occupied hours by a small lake, Laguna de Maderas. The climb to the lagoon of Maderas volcano through the 4,100 ha of nature reserve surrounding it is a popular tourist attraction.
The school of Christ came into this island in February starting with 17 students, 10 of them graduated, the testimonies of what God is always wonderful host, the students thanked us for our work in that place we are now preparing to open new schools in other parts of the island.
